I’ve had the time of my life..

Yesterday during school, I went to the Heckscher Museum [my third visit] for a field trip. Corey was with me
, and we had fun looking at the art series by Picasso, Braque, and Léger. We got a chance to do some hands-on work and if it’s good enough, it could be hanged up in their museum. Another contest they are holding is called “Long Island’s Best” and we have the chance to get our own pieces of artwork, inspired by the exhibition we saw, also could be hanged up in their museum. We must write 50 words or less on what inspired us to create this work and stuff like that. The judges look at that writing first and then the artwork. Which is good.
After school, I went to Corey’s house to hang out. When his mom got home from work she asked if we wanted to go to Benihana [a japanese restaurant] as Corey’s present to me, for our anniversary that was on Januray 25th. After the 45 minute drive or so, we found the restaurant [which looked super cool from the outside], got out of the car, and smelled the food that was awaiting us. We entered and saw portraits of celebrities that had been to this one Benihana in Westbury. To name a few: George W. Bush, Will Smith, Charlie Sheen, members of NSYNC, and Jackie Chan.
We got inside and the place was gorgeous. Without reservations, we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes [
]. That was awesome. When we were called in, I didn’t know that I would be sitting at a large table with 6 complete strangers. That’s fine though, they weren’t rude or obnoxious at all. Built in to the table was a hibachi grill about four feet long and two feet wide maybe. This grill went to extremely hot temperatures and the chef’s fingers were super close to it. He’s trained though, of course.
The chef we got was named “Muto.” If you go to this place, I sincerely recommend him. The first “trick” he did was when he was cooking the onions. Since onions are broken into rings, he separated each one and put them on top of one another and poured water inside the hole and made a volcano! That was cute and entertaining.
After that he was cooking the shrimp. Since he had to cut the tails off he was flipping them around on the grill and put a few of the tails onto the spatula and put the spatula on a select few people’s plates. Three people got to try to fling the tails into his tall, red, chef hat, including Corey. He was the closest to getting it in.
Then he put his spatula onto the grill unside down making a hill. He put an egg on it and let it roll across the grill. It rolled to me first and then to another girl. Then he said “Egg…. roll.” I was cracking up. :XD:
After this he was adding butter to the food. He took the butter from a large bowl and used his spatula to get a nice clump where he flung it over to land right on top of the food. He then said “Butta… fly.” Hahahahaha..
His little tricks were quite entertaining and he was funny. The food was GREAT and thank you so much Corey. I had a lot of fun.
Extremely happy and grateful,
Katie
