Spelling Bee Semi-finalist

Hey, maybe I should write a book on spelling and grammar. That’d be a good investment.

I was scanning the web and came across the overused phrase “idk.” I guess I never noticed until now just how much it bothers me that people use these idiotic phrases. If I take out the time to spell out “I don’t know” and “I don’t care” and “by the way,” why can’t anyone else? It probably only takes a few more nanoseconds of your life to do so. Maybe you should try it sometime.

As I was browsing (No pun intended) the internet I came across a girl who wrote, “sos jc u?” on a web page that I won’t disclose. None of that is pure English. Not one word is spelled out in that phrase. It just makes me wonder, “what has the world come to?” I won’t be surprised if in a few decades time that our sentences will look something like this: hhru wtho tc ttyl!

I wish I understood the logic behind shortcutting words… Oh wait, I probably don’t understand it because there IS NONE.

Or maybe I should write my thesis on bad spelling. That’d be cool.

As for the title, when I was in 5th grade, my school did a spelling bee for every class and everyone had to participate. From each class there was a winner. These winners competed against each other to find one spelling champ from each school. Guess who won for my school? …ME! So the winners of each school went on to a larger spelling bee held at some random school (I wish I remember where) and that competition continued on. Well I made it to the semi-finals along with many others. It was a really cool experience and to this day, I have some unfounded ability to just… spell well!

Hope you enjoyed my little story and rant,
Katie
